Anti-climax for Notts County
Jocky Scott
Jocky Scott appointed new Notts County manager
Notts County's season ended as a huge anti-climax, partly because the club promised so much in the early stages.

Sam Allardyce's departure to Bolton after only ten games was a shock, and Notts went on to press for compensation for Wanderers effectively poaching him.

Allardyce had resigned at Meadow Lane, but waited only a few days before Bolton took him on.

That setback was forgotten as new young manager Gary Brazil won his first three games to take the Magpies top of the table.

This was a huge improvement after finishing 16th the previous season, but form soon started to slip, as did Notts' league position.

Mark Stallard, so deadly in front of goal in the first three months of the season, fellow striker Craig Ramage and midfield man Clayton Blackmore stopped sparkling.

Blackmore's form waned to such an extent that he was no longer a regular, and was released at the end of the season along with former Liverpool target Fran Tierney. Duane Darby, Kevin Rapley and Dennis Pearce were transfer-listed,

The ultimate price was paid by Brazil, who was not retained as manager after a run of just two points from a possible 24, and Notts began the search for a new boss.

They did finish eighth but were way off the play-off places in terms of points.

Former Dundee manager Jocky Scott was appointed new manager at Meadow Lane before June ended with Brazil retained as his assistant.
