Notts County's Michael Johnson says he is sure his team can avoid dropping out of the Football League and ensure the future of the club remains safe.

The Magpies are four points above the relegation zone with six games to play.

But the on-loan Derby defender thinks plans to reintroduce a Centre of Excellence at the start of next season could suffer if relegation occurs.

"For the kids in Nottingham it would be a nightmare if the club goes down," he told BBC Sport.

"The repercussions for the area would be incredible. That's one of the reasons I came back to the club - to see if I could help them stay up."

The Centre of Excellence and youth team were ditched in May 2006 to reduce costs at the club but a programme across the 9-16 age range was announced in January this year.

There are also plans to introduce a scholarship system for 16-19 year olds.

Michael Johnson was speaking at the Nottingham leg of BBC Your Game. For more information on the project visit the Your Game website.
