Forest snap up Gunter and McKenna

Nottingham Forest have completed the double signing of defender Chris Gunter from Tottenham and midfielder Paul McKenna from Preston North End.

Gunter, 19, joins for £1.75m on a four-year deal, while 31-year-old McKenna has cost £750,000 and has signed with the Reds for three years.

Gunter, who is a senior Wales international, spent two months on loan at the City Ground last season.

Forest had three previous bids for McKenna turned down this summer.

The midfielder played 469 times for Preston after joining the club as a 14-year-old.

McKenna said: "It's a massive change for me but I think it was time for that change.

"You can get stale being at a club for too long, but I had great times there and I look back with fond memories.

"When an opportunity like this falls into your lap you would be a fool not to take it.

"Coming here has given me a new lease of life and I'm really excited about that challenge ahead."

Gunter, who signed for Spurs from Cardiff for £2m in January 2008, revealed he only wanted to play for Forest.

"When the manager told me at the end of last season that he was looking to bring me back to the club, I told him that if he could make it possible I'd love to come back," he said.

"I wasn't interesting in moving anywhere else. There was never a temptation to look at other clubs who were supposedly interested."
