Keane played for Nottingham Forest between 1990 and 1993
Former Nottingham Forest star Roy Keane has returned to the City Ground for the first time as a manager.
The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat to his Sunderland side in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
Keane told the Forest website he was happy to go back to the club, which he left to join Manchester United in 1993.
"I've got great memories of my three years there. Brian Clough gave me a chance and that is something that you never forget," Keane said.
"I don't know if I've picked up any of Brian Clough's traits but I just feel very lucky and honoured to have played under him.
When I look back at the managers I've played under he's certainly number one

"He was an absolute genius and when I look back at the managers I've played under, he's certainly number one."
The former Republic of Ireland international joined Forest from Cobh Ramblers for £10,000 in 1990 and before moving to Manchester United for £3.75m three years later.
A Kieran Richardson goal on 72 minutes was enough for Keane's side to claim victory on Wednesday.
