Johnson: No longer first-choice at Ipswich

Nottingham Forest boss David Platt is targetting Ipswich striker David Johnson to help his side's promotion push.

Johnson scored 22 goals in helping Ipswich reach the Premiership last season, but has not been a first choice at Portman Road this term.

Forest are currently sixth in the First Division and Platt thinks Johnson, 24, could help fire them to promotion.

He said: "I have made an initial inquiry and hope to be speaking to Ipswich manager George Burley before the week is out."

Johnson is rated at 2.5m by Ipswich and Forest are likely to face competition from Manchester City to secure his signature.
