Paul Lambert coy on Norwich City prospects

Norwich are hungry for success - Lambert

Norwich City boss Paul Lambert does not want to heap pressure on his squad by revealing his expectations ahead of their Championship return.

The League One champions get the domestic season underway against Watford on Friday.

Lambert told BBC Look East: "I know in my own head what I want to do, but I'll never make it public what I want to do.

"I know that brings pressure, which is already here. We'll try and have the same feeling we had last year."

The City manager has made seven summer signings as he looks to keep the momentum generated by last season's success.

One of the new-boys, Andrew Surman, believes his boss has one thing in mind when it comes to their promotion chances.

Early move was a blessing - Surman

"He's got a winning mentality that's distilled through the whole squad," the former Wolves midfielder said.

"We believe we can get promoted this season, everyone thinks we've got a good enough squad."

Meanwhile City are still sweating on the availability of striker Grant Holt.

The 29-year-old is due to be in court in Shropshire on the same day as the Watford clash.

Lambert is uncertain whether last season's top scorer will make it back from the hearing in time for the 1945 BST kick-off, but is confident his other options are up to the task.

I'll have a think about it but Chrissy Martin and Simeon Jackson have looked terrific together

Norwich City boss Paul Lambert on his strike options

"I'll have a think about it but Chrissy Martin and Simeon Jackson have looked terrific together," he said.

"I don't have a problem who plays."

Defenders Zak Whitbread and Steven Smith are unlikely to feature as they both try to get over pre-season knocks.

Smith has an ankle injury while Whitbread has yet to recover from a calf problem, but midfielder Korey Smith should brush off his own ankle issue in time.
