Norwich City manager Paul Lambert says he is working hard to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster on loan again this season.

The 22-year-old started 38 of Norwich's League One games last season in their title success and became an important part of their recent success.

"I've spoken to Newcastle's manager Chris Hughton numerous times but we'll have to wait and see," said Lambert.

Youngster Declan Rudd is the only other keeper with first-team experience.

Forster finished last season just one clean sheet short of equalling Kevin Keelan's 1974/75 club record of 19.

He was also voted players' player of the season by the rest of the Norwich City squad.

"We can't do anything if other teams come in for him - there's millions of things that can go wrong and as it stands he's Newcastle's player," said Lambert.

You can't just concentrate on one thing because he's not even our player - but there's loads of factors that could come into it

With Norwich's squad flying out to a German training camp on 11 July, Lambert knows that a decision either way has to be made soon.

"I can't leave it much long that's for sure. You can't just concentrate on one thing because he's not even our player - but there's loads of factors that could come into it," said Lambert.

Norwich City will start their new season in the Championship with the opening fixture against Watford at Carrow Road on Friday, 6 August.
