Holt praises debutant keeper Rudd

City have drawn their last two games with last minute goals

Norwich captain Grant Holt said he was impressed with teenager Declan Rudd, who made his debut at Gillingham.

Keeper Rudd came off the bench in the 1-1 draw on Saturday after Fraser Forster was sent off.

And striker Holt said he expected the 18-year-old to cope with the pressure given what he had seen in training.

"He played well, a bit nervy at first, but he's a young lad, we know what Dec's all about, he's very good," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"This might be the chance he gets now to have a little run in the team and fair play to him, I'm sure he'll grab it with both hands."

The decision towards the end was big, the ref had his own view of it and said I tumbled a bit easy, but I'm not sure

While Rudd failed to save Simeon Jackson's penalty with his first touch, he did make a string of saves in the second half.

He even ran the length of the pitch to be involved in the build-up to Darel Russell's 97th minute equaliser.

"That's where stories are written, and I think he even gave a shout to Rusty [Russell] to leave it," Holt added.

"I'm just delighted for him, he's waited a long time for his chance, it's always nice to get you're debut so he'll be happy."

Holt felt he should have had a penalty himself in the closing moments of the game, when brought down by Gills 'keeper Simon Royce.

"The decision towards the end was big, the ref had his own view of it and said I tumbled a bit easy, but I'm not sure," he said.

"I think their lad in the first half did the same."
