Aviva extend Canaries sponsorship

Norwich City

Norwich City have agreed a deal with insurance firm Aviva to extend their sponsorship deal for a further year.

The Norwich-based company will remain as the League One club's shirt sponsor until the end of the 2011-12 season.

"Everybody at the football club were disappointed with the end to last season," Canaries chief executive David McNally told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"For Aviva to back the football club at a pretty dark hour is something that we are very grateful for."

Aviva were confirmed as the principle sponsor of the recently-relegated club in the summer of 2008, the first time the firm had been so heavily involved in local sport.

Director of business development at Aviva, John Kennedy, said the club's league position was not their primary consideration when contemplating the extension.

"What we were here to do was to stay through thick and thin, and to be honest the club probably need us now more than they ever have done," he said.

Aviva will also sponsor the Geoffrey Watling City Stand at Carrow Road, but the name of the stand on the north side of the ground will not change.
