Exeter's Gill to sign for Norwich

Gill has also played for Peterborough and Notts County

Norwich City have agreed to sign experienced midfielder Matthew Gill on a free transfer from Exeter City.

The 28-year-old will put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Carrow Road on 1 July once his current deal expires at the end of the month.

Norfolk-bred Gill, who will be Bryan Gunn's first summer signing, hit nine goals for the Grecians this season.

Newly-promoted Exeter play relegated Norwich in League One next season - but Gill was drawn back to his roots.

"This is every boy's dream," he told BBC Radio Norfolk, "to come home and play for their home city club.

"My mum, dad and family are really pleased that I'll be moving back to the Norfolk area and I just can't wait now.

"As far as ambitions go Norwich's are far beyond what Exeter's are."

The Cambridge-born midfielder has strong ties with the county having played for Catton Juniors under-12 and under-13 teams.

He started his professional career in Cambridgeshire with Peterborough United in August 2007, spending seven years there before moving onto Notts County in May 2004.

In January 2006, he then signed for Exeter, for whom he made 164 appearances, playing a key part in the Grecians' back-to-back promotions.
