Spillane agrees new Norwich deal

Norwich defender Michael Spillane, who is on a season-long loan at Luton, has signed a new contract at Carrow Road.

The 20-year-old defender, who has impressed Canaries boss Bryan Gunn with his performances in League Two, has agreed a new two-year deal.

The Hatters may have been relegated from the Football League this week but Spillane recently helped them to lift the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

He will re-join City in the summer, once his loan at Luton ends.

The Republic of Ireland under-19 player-of-the-year said he was pleased to have secured a new deal.

"I'm delighted to sign my contract at Norwich, I came through the City youth system and it's great to sign a two-year deal and carry on here," he told the club's website.

"Luton were relegated on Monday, so that's at the back of my mind at the moment, but I'm really happy to be coming back to Norwich next season."

Since signing his first professional contract at Carrow Road in 2006 Spillane has made just 18 first-team appearances.

He has played 44 matches for the Hatters after being sent to Kenilworth Road on loan by former City boss Glenn Roeder.
