Starting Gunn

Bryan Gunn has been appointed as the Norwich City manager until the end of the season.

The former Canaries goalkeeper, who guided the team to a 4-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday, replaces Glenn Roeder who was sacked last week.

The 45-year-old will be assisted by ex-Norwich midfielder Ian Crook.

Crook, a former Carrow Road favourite, will serve as first-team coach on his return from Australia where he has been performance manager at Newcastle Jets.

Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk the appointment was a proud moment for him.

"It is the proudest day of my footballing career, I've achieved a lot with different clubs, and I've played for my country, but I think this is above that.

"When I got told that I was going to be the Norwich City manager the immense pride that I felt inside was indescribable," he said.

Gunn first joined Norwich as second-choice goalkeeper in 1986, becoming a fans favourite in the early 1990s, and has since held a range of positions at the club.

He was even appointed Sheriff of Norwich in 2002.

But Gunn said it was not until he took charge of Saturday's victory that he decided he wanted the top job.

"Probably I would have been happy to sit behind the scenes again and let someone get on with it, we're obviously still in a difficult situation, there's still a lot of hard work to do.

"But after the victory, seeing the reaction of the players and the approval from the fans, and after discussing it with my family, I decided to put my name forward," he said.

The club have also announced that former Canaries manager John Deehan will return to Carrow Road as chief scout.
