Huckerby expected Roeder sacking

Former Norwich City striker Darren Huckerby has said he was not surprised by the news that Glenn Roeder has been sacked as the club's manager.

The Canaries confirmed on Wednesday that Roeder and his backroom staff had all been dismissed.

Huckerby, 32, who left Norwich in 2008, told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I'm pretty sure the players didn't like the way he (Glenn Roeder) spoke to them.

"I think if you fell out with him then he could hold grudges."

Huckerby left Carrow Road after five years with the club and now plays for San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer.

But he was back to watch Norwich's FA Cup third round replay defeat by Charlton on Tuesday and said he was not surprised that proved to be the final straw for the club's board.

"I was not really surprised but it still happened pretty sharpish," he said.

"But the game last night was not great and this was the way it was heading.

"When you start having a pop at the fans, and when the results haven't been great you're asking for trouble.

"If you just look at the results, they haven't been good enough."
