Doherty had been linked with a move before signing his new deal
Defender Gary Doherty has been ruled out of the first three months of Norwich City's Championship campaign.
The 28-year-old centre-back suffered an ankle injury during the club's pre-season tour of Sweden.
Manager Glenn Roeder told BBC Radio Norfolk: "The surgeon has carried out a repair and if Doherty is back within three months he'll have done well."
The Republic of Ireland international recently signed a new two-year-contract with the Canaries.
Roeder has already signed two central defenders in Dejan Stefanovic from Fulham and Celtic's John Kennedy but he may look to bring in more cover after discovering the extent of Doherty's injury.
Left-back Adam Drury is yet to feature for Norwich in pre-season but Roeder is more optimistic about his chances of making the big kick off.
"He's recovering from a slight hamstring strain but we're being very careful with him to make sure that come the start of the season he will be fit."
