Norwich have signed Simon Charlton from Bolton for an initial fee of £250,000.
Charlton has played in the Premiership for Bolton and Southampton
The 32-year-old full-back has agreed a two-year deal, with an option to extend it for a further year.
City boss Nigel Worthington hopes that Charlton's considerable experience will help last year's Division One champions adjust to life in the top flight.
"I am delighted to get a player of Simon's quality. He is a first-class professional," Worthington told the club's official website.
"Simon has great energy and great enthusiasm for the game and is a good quality addition to the squad."
