Northampton Town boss Ian Sampson says that Michael Jacobs has the skills to play first team football this season, adding to his two games last term.

The 18-year-old midfielder signed a professional contract at Sixfields in April, having impressed for the title-chasing youth team.

Sampson told BBC Radio Northampton: "He has got talent and he's good with the ball. He'll be around the first 11.

"If they're good enough, it doesn't matter what age they are."

He added: "He gets a little bit sloppy when he thinks he can beat everyone, but we're not going to knock that out of him."
