Cobblers striker Akinfenwa yet to decide on future

Northampton Town's failure to win promotion has left top scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa uncertain about his future.

The 28-year-old striker, who scored 17 goals this season, was strongly linked to former club Swansea last August.

Akinfenwa told BBC Radio Northampton: "Every player will tell you they want to play as high as possible. That has to be in my thoughts for next season.

"But I enjoy it here, I've got love for Northampton and it's the longest I've ever been at one club, so we'll see."

Akinfenwa has rehabilitated his career at Northampton Town, having broken his leg in 2007 whilst playing for Swansea.

"The Cobbles have helped me get back to what I was before breaking my leg," he said.

"But I've finished as the top goal scorer for the last two seasons, so I like to think it's an even partnership, and that I've given something back."

Northampton are close to announcing their list of retained players for next season, when they will again contest League Two football, having finished 11th.

"We're all proud of what we've done as a squad, but we're a little bit disappointed too.

"We do believe this squad good enough to get out of this division."
