Sampson promises Cobblers changes

Results will determine future - Sampson

Northampton Town caretaker manager Ian Sampson is promising changes to the way the team play whilst he is in charge.

The Cobblers travel to sixth placed Notts County at the weekend.

And Sampson told BBC Radio Northampton: "It's a nice run of games against top teams that'll be a good test for me and the players. But there'll be changes.

"I've got my own ideas how the game should be played, and how to motivate people, so the buck stops with me for at least the next couple of games."

The Cobblers lie 16th in League Two, with just two wins and six goals conceded in their last two games.

"We've had a terrible start to the season. We've got to find some consistency. I think we've got a decent squad, and [we should be] competing for top seven."

Sampson was in contention for the manager role before the appointment of Stuart Gray in 2007.

"I think I've done a five-year apprenticeship in coaching. I wasn't ready the last time, but I'm desperate for it now. This is my job interview so I'm going to give it 100%."
