Northampton Town have named former Scotland international Colin Calderwood as their new manager.

The 38-year-old former Tottenham defender takes over from Martin Wilkinson, who was sacked by the Third Division side 10 days ago.

He will be joined by former Norwich City and Wigan Athletic boss John Deehan as director of football.

Calderwood leaves his post as reserve team coach at White Hart Lane to take the role at Sixfields - his first job as a football manager.

Tottenham's caretaker manager and director of football, David Pleat, said: "Colin is young, he has energy, ideas and, most importantly, ambition .

"This could be a terrific apprenticeship for him, and everyone at the club wishes him well in his new role."

Deehan, who was sacked as assistant manager at Aston Villa earlier this year, arrives from Ipswich Town where he acted as a part-time scout.
