Northampton sign Harsley
Northampton have swooped for former Halifax midfielder Paul Harsley on a two-year deal.

Harsley signed for Scunthorpe in August 1997 and made more than 150 appearances before signing for Halifax last April.

The 24-year-old went on to become the Shaymen's player of the year and leading goalscorer with 11 goals last season before his release this summer.

Harsley becomes Northampton manager Kevan Broadhurst's third signing of the summer following in the footsteps of midfielder Greg Lincoln and striker Darryn Stamp, who he played with at Scunthorpe.

Stamp said: "It's great to be back playing with Paul. We're good friends and I've got a lot of respect for him as a player.

"It's a quality set-up at Northampton and I'm sure Paul will fit in really well with the rest of the lads."

Meanwhile Northampton skipper Ian Sampson has signed a new deal that will keep him at Sixfields until 2004.

Sampson, who has made nearly 400 appearances for Northampton, follows in the footsteps of striker Derek Asamoah in agreeing a new deal with the club.

"The deal means I will have been here 10 years by the time it runs out and my loyalty to Northampton has never dwindled," says Sampson.
