Kieron Dyer: Could miss England's clash with a knee injury
England coach Kevin Keegan could be without Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer for next weekend's World Cup qualifying game against Germany.

The former Ipswich star is struggling after he twisted his knee in the Magpies 1-0 win at Manchester City on Saturday.

The youngster, who looked set to play on the right flank in place of Darren Anderton, is the only major doubt for the game but will report for duty with England where his injury will be reassessed.

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson said: "There may be some doubt about him for Kevin Keegan. He's got a bit of a twisted knee and he's been wrapped up in ice."

If Dyer fails to recover, Keegan may be forced to call-up Anderton, who came back from injury against Leeds on Saturday.

Foot injury

Paul Scholes may have to miss a couple of days' training with a foot injury while David Beckham suffered a knock to his knee in Manchester United's defeat at Arsenal but both are expected to recover before next Saturday.

Martin Keown also limped away from Highbury but this was due to what Highbury officials described as a "mild ankle sprain".

And despite previous worries over Emile Heskey's fitness due to a knee injury, the striker played in Liverpool's 3-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Rio Ferdinand also came through the whole of West Ham's game against Bradford, while Paul Ince has had two stitches to a knee injury but is confident of being ready.

Newcastle defender Andy Griffin could meanwhile be ruled out of England's Under-21 squad after he had to come off at half-time at Maine Road with a back injury.
