Newcastle United confidence remains intact - Nolan

Captain Kevin Nolan maintains confidence within the Newcastle United squad has not been affected by Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Stoke City.

The Magpies' winless run was extended to three matches, and they remain only four points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

"We're not getting carried away by this result," Nolan told BBC Newcastle.

"We've stuck together, the fans have stuck with us, and we've got to show the passion they have shown for us."

Nolan added: "I'm very positive that we are going to be ok come the end of the season."

The international break for the European Championship qualifiers means that Newcastle and many of their Premier League rivals will have played just twice during the month of March, in contrast to five games a month since the turn of the year.

"It's unbelievable we've got another two week break," the former Bolton Wanderers midfielder added.

"We have four or five games around the Christmas period, and then we only play two games in a month.

"We've got to make sure we're right for the next game."

The 28-year-old joined Newcastle United for £4m from Bolton in January 2009, and has since made 87 appearances, scoring 29 goals.
