Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has signed a four-year contract at St James' Park.

Krul, 22, joined the Magpies in 2005 and has made nine appearances since making his debut in the former Uefa Cup against Palermo in November 2006.

"I am delighted to commit my future to Newcastle United, hopefully I can fulfill my dream by becoming the future number one," Krul said.

"I have been at the club for five years and it feels like home."

Krul added: "I would like to thank Steve Harper and Paul Barron for the guidance that they have shown me to date."

The deal retains Newcastle's complement of three first-team goalkeepers, with first choice Steve Harper and Fraser Forster.

And boss Chris Hughton is pleased to have tied the Dutch goalkeeper to the club for the foreseeable future.

"We are delighted to have secured a four-year contract with Tim," Hughton said.

"He showed last season what an outstanding young goalkeeper he is and he can only get better."

Netherlands Under-21 international Krul has also spent time on loan with Falkirk and Carlisle during his time with Newcastle.
