Taylor commits future to Magpies

Taylor has established himself as a key player for Newcastle

Defender Steven Taylor has signed a new three-year deal with Newcastle.

The 22-year-old had been in talks with the club for over a year and rejected a a five-year contract in 2007 because of a dispute over the terms of the offer.

"I am thrilled to have signed this new contract," the London-born player told the club website.

"Newcastle United is my hometown club and the only team I've ever wanted to play for. I can't wait to get back into pre-season training next week."

The centre-back graduated from Newcastle's Academy in 2002 and made his first-team debut in 2004 during a Uefa Cup tie against Real Mallorca.

Manager Kevin Keegan is also keen to tie-up a new deal with Michael Owen, whose contract expires next summer.
