Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan is adamant the duo of Mark Viduka and Michael Owen can fire the club to Premier League safety this season.

Saturday's 2-0 win against Fulham saw the pair notch a goal apiece and Keegan was full of praise for both players for their efforts as a partnership.

He told BBC Radio Newcastle: "Viduka's got a fantastic ability to pass the ball into the net.

"And Owen got another goal and now we are finally giving him more chances."

Keegan's previous relationship with Owen was much speculated when the manager arrived at St James' Park, with some sources claiming the pair did not get on well.

However the former England boss has no complaints with the 28-year-old striker's attitude.

"I've asked Owen to play in a different position for us and he's never come in and said - 'That's not what I want to do'.

"I don't know what Owen's goal record at Newcastle is but it has got to be getting on for 50%, which is tremendous when you think how interrupted his time here has been."
