Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has welcomed the arrival of Nigel Pearson as his assistant at St James' Park.
The former West Brom coach was at the Magpies' game at Middlesbrough on Sunday and will begin work on the training ground this week.
"I know Nigel well having been on coaching courses with him. I like the way he works," Roeder told Newcastle's website. "He'll be a great asset."
Pearson replaces Kevin Bond, whose contract was terminated in September.
Bond has since taken up the manager's post at Bournemouth.
Former Middlesbrough defender Pearson left West Brom earlier in October following the appointment of Tony Mowbray as manager.
