Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert has denied he has quit international football, but admits his future with the Netherlands is in the balance.
Reports on Monday suggested Kluivert, 28, would not return even if called up by coach Marco van Basten.
But Kluivert, who has 40 international goals, told Dutch newspapers De Telegraaf he had been misquoted.
"I only told them I was disappointed in the words of the coach that I am last in the line of strikers," he said.
The former Barcelona striker has not played for his country since the European Championships in Portugal and has been criticised by Van Basten.
"All I care about is Newcastle United and doing well for Newcastle," added Kluivert.
"I am desperate to stay here because I am enjoying my football and I am very happy on and off the pitch."
