Souness overjoyed after victory
Newcastle manager Graeme Souness
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness hailed his side's crushing 4-0, 7-1 aggregate win over Olympiakos which sent them into the Uefa Cup quarter-finals.

"I'm delighted with the team performance," said Souness. "We made a good start, we got them on the back foot and kept them there throughout.

"We've had a really good night and we made them look very ordinary.

"I am delighted with the attitude we showed from the first minute of the match to the very last."

Souness also paid tribute to Alan Shearer, who struck his 190th and 191st goals for Newcastle.

"We wanted to bring him off after an hour, but he told us he wanted to stay on," said Souness.

"He told me he did not want to come off. You have to be guided by him.

"I think he had that much movement around him tonight that he was enjoying himself so much."

But the Newcastle manager refused to be drawn on whether he had any preferences for the next round.

"Like in any cup competition, as in the FA Cup as well, the further you go in the competition, the more difficult it becomes," he added.

"That will apply to this competition as well.

"I cannot tell you who is in it off the top of my head, but I know whoever we get, we will get a difficult tie."
