Newcastle midfielder Lee Clark plans to quit playing at the end of next season in order to concentrate on coaching.
Clark joined the Magpies in the summer to help with coaching the reserve-team but injuries at the club have seen him in action for the first-team.
"For the last few years, as I've got older, I've tried to set myself a strict target and follow a certain career path," he said.
"As a result I've earmarked next season as my last as a player.
Speaking to the Newcastle Chronicle, he added: "After that I want to focus fully on the coaching and management side of things.
"I've got my Uefa B licence and I'm halfway through the A licence - I hope to be assessed for that early next year.
"If I can get that then I'll apply for the Pro Licence, which you need to earn within a certain period of time if you want to be a Premiership manager."
