Newcastle striker Michael Owen insists the side just need a first win of the season to restore their confidence.
Newcastle are languishing in 19th place in the Premiership after the 1-1 draw against Fulham on Saturday in which Owen made his club debut.
"The lads are not at their most confident at the minute," he said.
"But I'm sure when the lads get their first win and that injection of confidence, I am sure you will start seeing a lot better performances."
Owen rarely looked like scoring alongside strike partner Alan Shearer but believes the pair will soon be on the goalscoring trail.
"Strikers always rely on the rest of their team," he added. "You can never do anything on your own in football.
"Saturday was not to be for the whole team, and if the team does not play well, the strikers often can suffer as well.
"But that was Saturday and there are plenty more games to come and I am sure we will score our fair share and get our fair share of points this year.
"We never had many chances, but that is the way football is."
