New Newcastle signing Patrick Kluivert could make his debut in a friendly game against Ipswich on Wednesday.
Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson told BBC Radio Suffolk: "He may play but I don't know his general fitness and I couldn't say until Tuesday.
"I don't want to risk him by playing him in a match when he is not fit."
The game is a testimonial match in memory of former Ipswich assistant boss and player Dale Roberts, who died of cancer in February 2003.
Newcastle's three former Ipswich stars - Kieron Dyer, Titus Bramble and Darren Ambrose - will all take part in the match at Portman Road.
Robson, who made his name as a manager at Ipswich from 1969-82, also confirmed that Magpies skipper Alan Shearer will be travelling with the squad.
