Newcastle may have a fight on their hands if they decide they want to keep on-loan defender Sylvain Distin.

The Frenchman is currently on loan from Paris St Germain and has been in talks with Newcastle manager Bobby Robson and chairman Freddy Shepherd over his future.

However, Greek side Olympiakos have indicated they are interested in signing the 3.6m-rated player.

United have first option on the Distin and he has indicated he would be happy to stay at St James' Park provided the deal is right.

The 25-year-old's preferred position is centre back but he has played mainly at left-back for Newcastle after forcing his way ahead of Robbie Elliott.
