Solano protest thrown out
Troyes protested about Solano's involvement
Uefa has turned down a complaint about Newcastle fielding Nolberto Solano in the Intertoto Cup final.
French side Troyes lodged an official protest after Newcastle fielded the Peruvian against them in the first leg of the final last Tuesday. Solano is a central figure in a probe into false passport allegations and the French side argued he should not have been eligible to face them. But a Uefa spokesman said: "Uefa have rejected the complaint from Troyes regarding Nolberto Solano. "The player is Peruvian-registered, he has got a license from the national association and there was never any problem at all." Solano was issued with a Greek passport two years after arriving in Britain with a valid work permit. He has always protested his innocence against charges that he had a false passport. Newcastle have also insisted that there is no problem and have recently re-registered Solano as a non-EC player. Newcastle and Troyes played out an acrimonious goalless draw in France on Tuesday. The Magpies complained about the treatment of their supporters during the tie.
