Motherwell have signed veteran Walsall and Northern Ireland winger Steve Jones until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old has 29 Northern Ireland caps and played under Well manager Stuart McCall at Bradford City.

And McCall told his club website: "I know Steve well as a player and what he can bring to the team.

"He's got a trick or two and I think the fans will take to him. He is a naturally left-sided player, something we've been crying out for."

McCall was hopeful that Jones could "fill that gap" and hoped to soon add further to the squad he inherited after Craig Brown's recent switch to Aberdeen.

"I don't think this is the end of the new faces either," he said.

I would like to thank everyone at Walsall for the support and backing that they have given me

"I've got more lined up to come in, so we'll see what happens in the coming days."

Jones joined Walsall from Burnley in 2009 after spending spells on loan to Crewe Alexandra and Huddersfield Town.

He played 16 times for League One outfit Walsall this season, but an injury picked up in August limited his appearances and he has been allowed to leave Banks's Stadium.

Jones told Walsall's website: "I would like to thank everyone at the club for the support and backing that they have given me over the past 18 months or so.

"It really has meant a lot to me and I have made some good friends here."

Jones' capture was announced on the same day as Motherwell revealed they were poised to sign Leeds United striker Mike Grella.
