Motherwell sign Blackburn forward Nick Blackman on loan

Motherwell have agreed a six-month loan deal for Blackburn Rovers reserve striker Nick Blackman.

The 20-year-old has yet to feature for Rovers' first team but has had loan spells at Blackpool and Oldham.

"Blackman is tall and he's good in the air," said manager Craig Brown. "He's got pace to burn, a good left foot.

"He has really blossomed in pre-season. My friend who is the first-team coach at Blackburn, Steve Kean, said he would definitely score goals in the SPL."

He scored three goals in six appearances for Blackburn's second string side last season.

Prior to his return to Ewood Park, the forward had scored once in 13 appearances for Oldham in League One.

Motherwell announced the signing of Spanish striker Esteban Casagolda on Thursday and Brown is delighted to have bolstered his attacking options.

"Esteban Casagolda is a promising lad, we've seen him in training for a couple of weeks and he looks as though he will score goals for us," added Brown.

"Nick Blackman is a very, very exciting young striker.

"They are both quick, and both lively. Their movement is good, that's the main thing about them.

"We had a good lift from Lukas Jutkiewicz (on loan from Everton) last season and we consider Blackman is as good a player and is going to be as productive for us as Jutkiewicz was and, if that's the case, we'll be well pleased."

The double signing is a boost ahead of the visit of Hibernian on Sunday after Brown had raised fears he would be unable to bring in an outfield player to his first-team squad this summer.

But the run to the Europa League play-offs has allowed him extra scope and his business may not be finished.

"We might try to fiddle with the team a little and see if we can have some movement before the end of the transfer window," added the former Scotland boss.

"We're still on the lookout to freshen up the squad and supplement it.

"If the deal is right and the chairman is prepared to co-operate, as he has done brilliantly to allow us to get these strikers in, we might manager to get someone else."
