Goalkeeper Kyle Letheren agrees Motherwell deal

On-loan Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy has picked up an injury

Former Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Kyle Letheren has been signed by Motherwell on a short-term contract.

The 22-year-old, who was a free agent, has been brought in as cover following a thigh injury suffered by John Ruddy.

Motherwell manager Craig Brown said that Letheren had been assessed by goalkeeping coach Stewart Kerr.

"Kyle has been with us before, on trial, a few months ago and really impressed Stewart Kerr," Brown told the club website.

"However, at that time, we still had Sebastian Kosiorowski and obviously couldn't afford to take on another goalkeeper.

"He'll be with us, probably to the end of the current season, whilst John recovers from his knock, which should be in time for the last few games."

Letheren, a former Wales Under-21 international, will be in the Motherwell squad for Tuesday's visit to Celtic Park.

Having started his career with Swansea, he moved to Barnsley in 2006.

However, Letheren made just one appearance, as a substitute, during his three years with the club and also failed to start for Doncaster while on loan.

He was signed by Paul Sturrock for Plymouth last summer but was released in December without having broken into the Championship side's first team.
