Slane made a bright start to the season for Motherwell
Motherwell teenager Paul Slane requires a second operation to resolve a leg injury problem.
The 17-year-old forward had treatment six weeks ago but experienced pain on his return to training on Monday.
"I felt ready to join in full training," a disappointed Slane told the Fir Park club's website.
"However, it looks as if the pressure problem I've been having hasn't been just my calf, but also my shins and I had to stop."
Slane made his debut as a late substitute at the tail end of last season and featured under manager Jim Gannon at the beginning of this term before injury struck.
"I can't tell you how disappointing it has been; I loved it during the European run and was really looking forward to the start of the SPL season," he added.
"This has been a setback but I'll be working hard to get back fit and doing well for Motherwell."
