Motherwell sign Shrews' Humphrey

Motherwell have signed Chris Humphrey on a three-year deal after the winger rejected a new contract at Shrewsbury.

The 20-year-old had been offered a two-year deal in May but he stalled signing in order to wait for other offers.

Humphrey was signed by former Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters when he was spotted playing for West Bromwich Albion's reserve team in 2006.

He has made more than 70 appearances for the League Two side and helped them reach the play-off final last season.

The winger was left behind when the rest of the Town squad went on their pre-season training camp to Spain.

Shrews boss Paul Simpson explained to BBC Radio Shropshire: "I decided not to take him if he wasn't committing himself to us."

Humphrey could soon be playing in Europe - although he has not been registered in time for this week's Europa League second qualifying-round tie with Flamurtari Vlore in Albania.

He is Jim Gannon's second summer signing at Fir Park, following fellow midfielder Steve Jennings' arrival at Motherwell from Tranmere Rovers.
