Motherwell have completed the signing of French midfielder Yann Soloy on a one-month contract with a view to a permanent deal.

Soloy, a former team-mate of Celtic's Momo Sylla at Le Havre, has impressed manager Eric Black while on trial and has been given the chance to secure a longer deal.

Black confirmed: "Yann Soloy has today signed for a month and we'll see how that goes.

"He has signed after we looked at him for a week or so.

"We liked the look of what we saw and decided to take the step.

"He now has the opportunity over the next month's contract to show us what he can do and we'll see where it leads."

Soloy has been searching for a new club since being freed by Le Havre despite playing 17 matches for the club last season.

Motherwell were tipped off by a French contact and the 31-year-old could make his debut against Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday.

"He is a midfield player who can play in four or five positions," said Black.

"He is a very experienced player with over 100 games in the French First and Second Divisions and he brings experience to the team.

"What he also gives us is cover right across the midfield area and, hopefully, he can go on and improve us and take this opportunity to impress."

Black also revealed that he was close to ending his search for a new striker and that another signing could even arrive before the end of the weekend.

The Fir Park boss has been assessing the quality of German forward Ralf Schmidt and Dutchman Guillermo Graaven while on trial.

"We've been trying to get a new striker to be fair," admitted Black.

"We have been following quite a few leads.

"I'm hoping that, by the end of the week or early next week, we will be able to get someone in.

"We'll continue to have a look, but at this moment in time we are not any closer to signing anyone."
