Morton have completed the signing of former Hibernian defender Jay Shields.
Jay Shields spent last season on loan to Dundee
The 22-year-old, a product of the youth system at Easter Road, was released by Hibs at the end of last season.
Shields, who made 21 appearances for Hibs, played 22 times on loan to Dundee last season and will again play in the First Division this term.
He told Morton's website: "From what I have seen, Morton like to play good, passing football and the First Division should suit that."
Shields also had a previous loan spell with Berwick Rangers.
Morton had hoped to announce a double signing but missed out in their attempt to sign Slovenian striker Jani Sturm.
Sturm had a successful trial with Morton and had agreed a two-year contract with the Second Division champions.
However, he instead signed for Dundee.
Morton chairman Douglas Rae said: "We are obviously bitterly disappointed as we had agreed terms with the agent and the player had told the manager how keen he was to stay at the club.
"It has been especially frustrating that this has happened so close to the start of the season."
Morton are also reportedly interested in signing forward Paul McGowan from Celtic on a permanent basis.
McGowan spent last season on loan at Cappielow.
