Morecambe boss Jim Bentley has said he is beginning to adjust to his management role after replacing Sammy McIlroy at the Globe Arena.

Bentley, who was appointed in May having previously captained the League Two club, took charge of training for the first time on Tuesday.

"It's very strange because they've all been team-mates of mine," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"But we'll all adapt as time goes by and I'm really excited."

Liverpool-born Bentley added: "It's been a hectic couple of weeks with signing players and sorting things for the season, but I've been looking forward to this day for a long time."

Goalkeeper Barry Roche has been appointed club captain, although Bentley is still undecided who should skipper the team on the field.

"Barry proved last year he was capable of doing certain things around the club and is well respected around the place," said Bentley.

"He's a big imposing figure and I think he'll do a good job for us.

"We'll weigh up the team captaincy throughout pre-season and see what's best. I just don't want to rush into anything."

Morecambe will begin their League Two campaign at home to Barnet on Saturday, 6 August.
