Morecambe midfielder Craig Stanley has signed a new one-year contract with the League Two play-off hopefuls.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Shrimps in May 2006, is already looking forward to next season when the club moves to their new purpose-built stadium.

"I have had a great time here and I want to be around for the first season at the Globe Arena," Stanley told the club website.

"It's an exciting time and I hope we can finish this season on a high."

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy is also hopeful a number of players, including goalkeeper Barry Roche, will sign new deals over the coming weeks.

There's a big rainbow at the end if we can win all three

"There's still a few more we're in the process of talking to," he said.

"We're after keeping the nucleus of the squad and hopefully we'll be able to improve a little bit in the summer."

Morecambe play Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday knowing three points could see them move back into the play-off places with a further two games to play.

And the manager believes victory over the team currently in seventh will provide a massive incentive for the rest of the campaign.

"It's delicately poised. It's certainly a big game against Dagenham, there's no doubt about that," said McIlroy.

"We've got three massive cup finals and if we can beat Dagenham it'll set us up nicely for the other games. And there's a big rainbow at the end if we can win all three.

"Let's hope the fans come out and support the boys because we need their backing. We can only do what we can do and not look at anybody else."
