Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy has admitted that he needs new blood in his squad for the club's second season in the Football League.

After releasing four players and losing midfielder Garry Thompson to Scunthorpe, McIlroy says he will be working hard to find reinforcements.

"There's at least another four people I'd like to bring in to the club," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I'll be working tirelessly until July the third to get them in."

McIlroy also revealed one of his targets will not be moving to Christie Park.

"Andy Kirk, unfortunately didn't come, the forward from Yeovil.

"He's a player I worked with in the under-21's (with Northern Ireland) but I couldn't do a deal there. But there's other irons in the fire," he added.

McIlroy has strengthened his squad with the summer signing of midfielder Michael Carr from Northwich, a player who he admits has caught his eye over recent seasons.

"I've watched him in the Conference and watched him in the England Conference side against good opposition," said McIlroy.

"He's something different that we don't have in midfield. He's a box to box player with goals in his game.

"We didn't score a lot of goals at all from midfield last year and Michael Carr can provide us with that," he added.
