Morecambe have broken their transfer record to sign midfielder Carl Baker from Southport on a three-year deal.
The fee for Baker, 24, remains undisclosed but it is bigger than the £25,000 they paid to land Steve Walters from Northwich in 2000.
"He is a terrific player who has great feet and vision and can play in several positions. I am delighted," said manager Sammy McIlroy.
McIlroy has also landed defender David Artell, 26, on a free transfer.
Artell left Chester City at the end of last season.
