Morecambe boss Jimmy Harvey has made his second summer signing from down the Lancashire coast with the capture of former Southport man Dean Howell.
The 22-year-old left-sided player follows Chris Lane to Christie Park following Port's relegation from the Nationwide Conference.
Howell, who joined Southport in December 2001, after spells with Notts County and Crewe, has agreed a two-year deal with the Shrimps.
"Relegation with Southport was a big blow, not only to Southport as a club, but also to the players," Howell told Morecambe's club website.
"But then to be asked to sign for the Conference runners-up is a tremendous boost.
"I am really looking forward to the season starting and I will be hoping for us to be right up there with the top teams."
Harvey made his move for Howell after the departure of Lee Elam to Halifax and Lee Colkin's move to Burton Albion.
