Montrose capture striker Gemmell

John Gemmell
Gemmell leaves Cowdenbeath after a year at Central Park

Montrose have signed John Gemmell after a private backer came forward to pay Cowdenbeath a fee for the striker.

"I am delighted that someone has stepped in to help the club to finance the deal," Gemmell told the Scottish Football League website.

"I am sure they will not be disappointed in the investment they have made."

The 24-year-old has previously played for Albion Rovers, Dumbarton, Hamilton, Partick Thistle and Queen's Park.

Manager Steven Tweed has been tracking Gemmell for several weeks and is delighted to have him on board.

"John is a proven goalscorer in the Third Division and will be a great acquisition for Montrose," added the Montrose boss.

"He always impressed me when I played against him and that made me even more determined to bring him here."
