MK Dons midfielder hangs up boots

Milton Keynes Dons

MK Dons midfielder Paul Mitchell has announced his retirement from football after a long-term leg and ankle injury.

The 27-year-old sustained the double break in a match almost two years ago and called time on his career on the advice of doctors.

The former Dons captain told the club website: "I'm disappointed to be forced into retirement at such a young age but I'm lucky to remain involved here."

Mitchell will continue to work at the club as a community ambassador.
