Dons skipper Andrews set to stay

Keith Andrews
Andrews is set to captain the Dons again next season

Milton Keynes Dons skipper Keith Andrews is set to stay at Stadium MK after impressing in Wednesday night's 2-1 friendly win over Watford.

It was the midfielder's first pre-season appearance after being transfer-listed and he opened the scoring.

Andrews was linked with Blackburn and former Dons boss Paul Ince.

But new manager Roberto Di Matteo told BBC Three Counties Radio: "He is a quality player and we are glad he's settling down in the team."

Andrews scored after just two minutes, and then set up the winner for Aaron Wilbraham, against a Watford side who were also interested in securing his services.

The former Wolves and Hull player captained the Dons to the League Two and Football League Trophy double last season, but was transfer-listed as the club felt speculation over his possible move was too much of a distraction ahead of the new campaign.

But Di Matteo confirmed Andrews would once again captain the side: "He's made his mind up now and we're glad about it. It's good for the whole club."
