Ronald Koeman cool on Middlesbrough manager vacancy

Koeman lasted seven months at AZ Alkmaar

Former AZ Alkmaar boss Ronald Koeman has revealed a desire to manage in England, despite distancing himself from the vacant post at Middlesbrough.

Koeman, 47, who left the Dutch side in December 2009 after seven months in charge, has also managed PSV Eindhoven.

"I would love to work in England, preferably at the highest level or at a club with potential," Koeman told the NuSport newspaper.

"I do not see that at Middlesbrough," the ex-Benfica and Valencia boss added.

The 78-cap former Netherlands international's first coaching role came with Vitesse Arnhem in 1999, which led to him taking over from Co Adriaanse at former club Ajax.

After his resignation in 2005, Koeman then took up season-long posts at Benfica, PSV and Valencia, before taking over for a short-lived term at then-Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar.

As a player Koeman represented Barcelona, winning the 1992 European Cup at Wembley, as well as Groningen, Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord.

Boro are looking for a new manager following Gordon Strachan's resignation.
