Middlesbrough's Didier Digard completes Nice loan move

Middlesbrough have allowed midfielder Didier Digard to join French Ligue 1 side Nice on a six-month loan with a view to a permanent move.

Digard, 23, joined the Teessiders from Paris Saint Germain in July 2008, but a string of injuries have limited him to just 34 appearances.

His last appearance came in December's 3-0 defeat by Blackpool.

Strachan told BBC Tees: "Didier's liable to go to Nice on loan for a while which would free up some salary."

Having begun his career at Le Havre in 2003, Digard was signed by PSG in July 2007 for £100,000 before his £4m Boro move.

Meanwhile Strachan has revealed that Middlesbrough will not consider a bid for defender Emmanuel Pogatetz from Greek side Panathinakos, despite the fact the player is out of contract in the summer and can leave the Riverside on a free transfer.

Pogatetz, 26, joined Middlesbrough from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for £1.8m in June 2005 and has become a popular figure with both players and supporters at Boro, as well as an influential part of the first-team.

"The Greek club has offered money for him. I know he is out of contract in the summer but I know for a fact it would need five times the amount mentioned to replace him with a player of similar ability, so that won't be happening," Strachan told the club website.

"The only way it would happen is if it was right for us, which it certainly wouldn't be.

"By a million miles at this time Pogatetz is better off staying here than us taking the money that's on offer."
